Also as a self-taught artist, Stephen has been practicing the art of marquetry for the past fifteen years. Using his own unique, self-developed techniques, he has produced, and has been commissioned to produce, many commendable one of a kind pieces of art.

Marquetry

Marquetry is the art of combining multiple species of wood together to create a wooden painting. As a self taught artist, Stephen has developed his own unique method of designing and fabricating his one of a kind pieces. Using original designs he creates pictures from photographs, still life or imagination. Because each picture is meticulously hand cut it ensures that each one is an original piece of artwork. Using multiple species of exotic and domestic wood veneer allows each picture to have a unique combination of colors and wood grains. Working with small amounts of wood allows Stephen to use many rare and beautiful types of veneer otherwise unavailable for larger projects. Pictures range in size and complexity. Existing designs can be reproduced and commissions can be done based on a photograph or idea. Prices are based on the size and detail of each picture.
